Today’s Service Journal features a Canon K35 25–120mm cinema zoom lens with one of the more unusual arrivals we’ve seen in the shop. From the moment it came out of the box, it was clear something was wrong. The lens had been stored for an extended period in a deteriorating foam-lined case, resulting in a thick, sticky residue covering the housing. Embedded in the mess were fragments of melted foam and even wood splinters from the case itself, making this one a challenge before we ever touched a tool.

Our first priority was carefully stabilizing and cleaning the exterior without allowing contaminants to migrate into the lens. Protective gloves, surface shielding, and a slow, methodical approach were essential. Once the housing was fully cleaned, we repainted worn focus and zoom markings to restore clear legibility. Thankfully, the optics appeared stable at first inspection, allowing us to focus on a thorough cosmetic and mechanical refresh without additional optical repair.

By the time the Canon K35 left the bench, it had undergone a complete transformation. The lens was fully cleaned, restored, and returned to a professional, production-ready condition.
