Although the lens is rated at T2.5, its optical design is based on a fast f/1.4 aperture, which still provides naturally shallow depth of field when shot wide open. The Classic coating formula softens global contrast, introduces gentle highlight bloom, and encourages expressive flare behavior, resulting in imagery that feels organic, atmospheric, and emotionally textured.

This distinctive rendering sets the Classic series apart, offering a more filmic rolloff and softer transitions compared to modern high-contrast optics. Mechanically, the lens matches the Sigma Cine architecture with a 95 mm front diameter, consistent gear placement across focal lengths, and a 180° focus rotation for precise, repeatable focus control. The Classic primes are available exclusively in ARRI PL mount with metadata support, ensuring professional compatibility while delivering a character-driven mid-wide look.
