Weekly Lens Round Up #1

Welcome to the first issue of our Weekly Lens Round up! Here we will share what is new, noteworthy, shared or on the rise. If you see something we missed, let us know in the comments below. On to the news:

1) Cooke Optics shares a lovely sampling of Anamorphic /i primes

...in a video titled CHAIN REACTION. Shot by DP David G. Wilson on a RED Dragon (6K, Skin Tone Highlight OLPF, 500 ASA). The video conveniently calls out the exact Cooke Anamorphic/i lens used for each shot in the lower left corner. Enjoy!

2) Hugh Brownstone reviews Sony's new G-Master lenses

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysNzxR7QSjU] ...shot on everyone's new favorite "B" camera, the Sony A6300. The new G-Master lenses are rather limited in options with only an 85mm f/1.4, 24-70mm f/2.8, and 70-200mm f/2.8. Hugh's video puts the lenses through quite the variety of shooting environments and lighting conditions.  You can find the original article here.

3) The Cine Lens 2016 NAB Coverage!

nab-show-logo We'll be covering all the optics things at the 2016 NAB Show in Las Vegas. We'll have interviews with the industries biggest lens manufacturers and a sneak peak at some really cool products coming in 2016. Check back on April 16th for the first installation of our 2016 NAB coverage.

4) Brand new Irix 15mm f/2.4 wide-angle lens

Irix_Blackstone_2 ...from a company in Switzerland called TH Swiss AG, comes a brand new 15mm lens with an impressive fast aperture of f/2.4. This appears to be the first lens released by this company, but it's loaded with features that are cleverly, well thought out. The Full Frame lens will be available in Nikon, Canon, and Pentax mount in one of two varieties: the "Firefly" and the "Blackstone". As mentioned by the site, this new lens is a swiss design, but manufactured in S. Korea. We like it because they claim superb image quality and the lens features a proper manual focus (but still fly-by-wire aperture). Pricing and delivery expected to be announced Spring 2016. Check out the Irix product page here.
